I read the books once, beginning of my freshmen year of high school, but they weren’t nearly as fun and exciting as the movies I grew up with! They were actually pretty slow and didn’t have a lot of action, but were still just as unbelievable as ever. Have to give the books some credit though; they did start an unbelievable franchise!

I think that the version of M from the novels is much more based on Fleming. There’s actually a guide book to Bond written by O.F. Schnelling called 007: A Report (1st pub. in ’64, IIRC.) that goes into this theory in some detail. Both Fleming & M wore bow ties, they were both in the RNVR, they were both chauffered around in Rolls limos, etc.

he was a really interesting guy, Ian Fleming, by all accounts, i wonder what he was like as a friend.
